The Academy Award nominated actor was 28. "Pills were found in the vicinity of the bed," police spokesman Paul Browne told CNN. "This is being looked at as a possible overdose, but that is not confirmed yet." The pills appeared to be over-the-counter sleeping medication, said police spokeswoman Barbara Chen. Ledger was unresponsive when he was found by a housekeeper who had gone to wake him for an appointment with a masseuse in the Soho apartment, Browne said. The apartment is owned by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, The New York Times reported. Ledger was declared dead at about 3:30 pm, Browne said. In 2005, the actor played Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain," about two cowboys who had a secret relationship. The role earned him the Oscar nomination. Ledger was born in Perth, Australia. Best Sleep Apnea PillowJan 06, 2012
www.deluxecomfort.com We live in a "quick fix" world. Everywhere we turn, there are miracle cures for whatever ails you. What happens when your problem doesn't fall under the scope of traditional ailments? What happens if your problem is snoring? Have you ever heard of an apnea sleep pillow? If you have problems with snoring, you know how frustrating the habit can be. Not only does it disturb your spouse or partner's sleep, it also leaves you feeling tired and drained the next day. No, that's not your imagination. You may have been puzzled at how you can be tired after having a full eight hours sleep. The bottom line is that when you snore, you actually don't enjoy a good night's rest. That's where an apnea sleep pillow can help. It's true that snoring interrupts your normal pattern of sleep. Those people who suffer from sleep apnea have snoring patterns that vary in volume. They are interrupted by silences that are then interrupted by odd sounds such as a gasp or a snort. This is because the snorer is actually experiencing a lapse in breathing. Apnea sufferers often go without breathing for more than ten seconds. That gasping and wheezing sound or that snort is a sign that the person is struggling to catch a breath. This is just one of the reasons why people have turned to apnea sleep pillows for relief. Timelapse of sleepingOct 31, 2011
This is a section of one night from my series of at-home sleep studies using a near-infrared camera and an infrared illuminator. The room is completely dark. I'm on the right. There's a "control group", a normal person with no known sleep issues, on the left. I tend to move around a lot more than my sleepmate. (Yes, I showed this to a doctor. No, I don't have Restless Leg Syndrome.) Using these videos I can figure out how various factors affect my sleep quality. I also take close-up videos of my face while sleeping so that I can monitor breathing and look for the eye motions that accompany dreaming. ---- More info: nasu-dengaku.livejournal.com Some Q&A: - Why are you doing these sleep experiments? I'm hoping to improve my amount of wakeful, pleasurable, and productive time during the day by improving my sleep. I've been specifically trying to shorten sleep latency and decrease awakenings during the night. - You've done some experiments with drugs. What works best? What sucks? I tested sleeping pills for two things -- effectiveness at getting me to fall and stay asleep, and the amount of "hangover" I experienced during the next day. I found two types of sleeping pills that worked best for me. Melatonin was best for most sleepless situations, as it was moderately effective and had almost no hangover effect. Ambien was best for extreme situations (eg a noisy bus) as it was highly effective and had only moderate hangover effect. Ambien also had the nice side effect of ...

Dr.Drew Pinsky's Rx Locker v. RxDrugSAFENov 05, 2011
We put Dr. Drew Pinksy's new product, the Rx Locker, a plastic storage container that uses a chrome brief-case style tumbler lock system, against an RxDrugSAFE, a 17 gauge steel medicine safe that utilizes fingerprint recognition technology to allow access - against a 9th grader - to see how well they secure prescription medications in the home. Each product claims to be "secure" and designed to "prevent unauthorzed access" so we tested those claims against a teenager in a typical home setting. This video is designed to demonstrate the effectiveness and strength of each product at securing medications and should be viewed as, and for educational, informative and comparative purposes only. Consumers should carefully review each products ability to secure dangerous prescription medications in light of their ability to thwart tampering with its locking mechanisms, as well as determine the degree of force necessary to open each product when they are locked. ***RxLocker is a registered trademark of Locker Brands Dr. Drew Pinsky is a registered trademark of Dr. Drew Pinsky***
Dangerous Prescription Drug Warning!!!Feb 07, 2012
From ITN News broadcast 24th June 2011 Well-known brands of hay fever tablets, painkillers and sleeping pills pose a previously unknown threat to people's health when taken together, British scientists claim. Many are available over the counter at pharmacies as well as being prescribed by GPs, nurses and chemists. Today the scientists behind the study call for doctors to recognise how dangerous these drug combinations can be and to prescribe harmless alternatives instead. Researchers from the University of East Anglia and the University of Kent identified 80 widely used medications that, when used in combination, were found to increase the risk of serious health problems. The drugs, including common allergy treatments Piriton and Zantac, as well as Seroxat, an anti-depressant, are thought to be used by half of the 10 million over-65s in Britain. Many of the drugs, when taken in combination, were found to more than treble an elderly patient's chance of dying within two years. Common bladder medications, heart drugs, eye drops and asthma treatments were also among those found to pose a risk. All the drugs work by blocking a key chemical in the nervous system called acetylcholine. The researchers placed each of the drugs into one of three groups based on how effectively they blocked acetylcholine. The more effective the drug was in blocking the chemical, the more dangerous it was in high doses. The most dangerous included the antihistamines chlorphenamine (used in the brand ...
Teen Drug Abuse Is Becoming A Global IssueSep 16, 2011
Teen prescription drug abuse is fast becoming a problem around the world with more teens falling slave to drug abuse and health issues. A discouraging fact is that although the percentage of teens using illegal drugs has dropped, there has been an alarming increase in the number of teens who use prescription medication and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. Some of the most commonly abused prescription drugs include drugs prescribed after surgery, depressants like sleeping pills and other anti-anxiety drugs as well as stimulants. If one were to look into the ill-effects of prescription drug abuse, there is generally a high possibility that the abuser will suffer from seizures as well as heart and breathing issues. What is even more dangerous for the user is when two different medicines are mixed together. All risks double and this will also cause the user to behave in an abnormal manner.
